Mayor’s First Day Festival

We have worked with Mayor Bill Purcell and his Office of Children and Youth since 2000 to organize the citywide celebrations that mark the beginning of the school year in Nashville.

The event now draws more than 20,000 people to Gaylord Entertainment Center, where parents and students are introduced to 100 organizations that provide resources and support for public education in Nashville.  About 200 volunteers are involved in staging the event, which includes educational activities and entertainment on four stages.   The initiative remains a grassroots model for celebrating education, bringing together parents, educators and the private sector to make a difference in educating children.

Tennessee Comprehensive Cancer Coalition

We led the public kickoff of an statewide coalition of cancer experts and their strategic plan, coordinated by the Tennessee Department of Health, to lower cancer rates in Tennessee.

The public effort included introduction of the plan to media from Memphis to Tri-Cities and the inaugural Tennessee Cancer Summit in June 2005 in Nashville, which brought together the state’s leading cancer institutes, physicians, researchers, nurses and patient support organizations in an event widely covered by the media.  As the plan is implemented, Hall Strategies will continue assisting the Cancer Coalition with public education.

Red River Service Corp.
As it competed to become Metro Nashville’s newest and largest waste collection provider, Texas-based Red River Service Corp. hired Hall Strategies to assist the company with local government and media relations.  Red River, one of the fastest growing companies in the waste industry, began service in Nashville in 2005.

First Years Institute
For the Memphis-based non-profit organization, Hall Strategies provides public relations and policy support for a collaborative initiative involving business, government, health care, childcare and education to improve the environment for children in Shelby County ages 0-5.

We’re helping the Institute extend its ‘First Years Last a Lifetime’ public campaign, form strategic partnerships, create special events, and generate new initiatives to deliver effective early care and education for parents and caregivers and the children they care for.

Tennessee Economic Partnership
TEP is the premier private sector economic development organization in Tennessee, working closely with the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development to market Tennessee for corporate expansion and relocation.  Hall Strategies leads strategic planning and marketing activities that showcase the best of Tennessee to the economic development community’s top site consultants and to the hottest relocation and expansion prospects.

NBA Now
Organized lobbying and media for the NBA Now campaign in 2001 to relocate the NBA Grizzlies from Vancouver to Memphis and gain state and local government approvals for a $250 million downtown arena development.

B.B. King’s Blues Club
We managed the Nashville launch of the world-famous Beale Street restaurant and club that bears the legendary guitarist’s name.  Our work included development of an award-winning invitation for a preview party for more than 1,200 music industry, business and civic leaders; local and national media coverage of the opening, which included two shows by B.B. King and guest appearances by some of music’s greatest guitarists.

Cover the Uninsured Week
For the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, we mobilize a grassroots organization of more than 200 members to educate the public on the growing problem of the uninsured nationally and in our communities.  We have organized more than 12 Nashville-based events that garnered widespread media attention over a week-long campaign to position the issue prominently.

National League of Cities
For Metro Government, organized host-city activities for the 2003 National League of Cities Congress of Cities, an event that attracted more than 6,500 local government elected officials for a six-day convention.   The week-long program included city showcases to highlight innovative Metro Government services.
